Job Summary

At Santa Cruz City Schools, Human Resources and the Personnel Commission work closely together as each department relies on the other for certain functions. This role is a combination of 2 classifications and will work in both departments. Human Resources Technician: Under the direction of the Human Resources Director, provide technical clerical support for a variety of human resource functions involving highly specialized clerical tasks in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of employees; post enrichment provider assignments, assist with certificated recruitment including applicant screening and interview scheduling; process Leaves of Absence for classified employees in compliance with negotiated bargaining agreements and federal and state leave laws; enter absences into computerized system; upload absences into P/R; create new employee files; update employee files with new addresses, name changes, or other information; provide technical and highly responsible clerical support to process personnel actions including promotions, demotions, transfers, releases, retirements, resignations, and layoffs. Human Resources Specialist: Under the direction of the Personnel Commission Director, perform a wide variety of highly specialized clerical tasks in the recruitment, selection, testing and certifying of classified employees; post and advertise available positions; schedule applicants for employment, and oral and written tests; maintain and update various information sources and databases; generate a variety of reports, records & logs; support the Personnel Commission in financial, procedural and administrative tasks as it relates to the Merit System; respond to staff questions and concerns.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and four years of increasingly responsible clerical or office-related experience. A two-year college degree may be substituted for two years of clerical or office-related experience if two years of office-related experience have already been completed.
