Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT) and/or Designee, the Transportation Driver / M&O Support position operates a District passenger van to safely transport students, staff, and materials to and from school sites and District locations. In addition, this position performs routine custodial work, provides grounds support, and completes minor maintenance and facility support tasks to assist District Maintenance and Operations functions. Position Description

 

The General Maintenance Worker, under supervision, performs work in several trades (heating, plumbing, electrical, painting, and roof and gutter repairs), at journeyman level.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License or California I.D.
  • Maintain a Class B license with a P endorsement (obtain within 6 months of employment)
  • Maintain a valid forklift license

 

Education/Experience

 

High school diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience.  Four years of experience in one of the following:  heating, plumbing, electrical, painting, or building maintenance.  Must have a thorough knowledge of all tools and testing equipment related to heating, plumbing, electrical, painting, and light building repairs.

 

Skills/Abilities

 

  • Ability to use various power tools related to building trades
  • Licensed and trained to operate a Class 2 Bus
  • Diagnose and make the necessary repairs to heating and plumbing equipment
  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions in English
  • Communicate verbally in English
  • Estimate cost of repairs
  • Keep simple records and make routine reports
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Comply with the physical/mental demands as described on the ADA profile

 

Knowledge

 

  • Of methods, materials, and supplies necessary for the maintenance of heating and plumbing equipment
  • Of painting of interior and exterior of school buildings
  • Of light building maintenance

 

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Repairs classroom furniture/painting interior and exterior of school buildings
  • Repairs roof shingles and rain gutters
  • Maintains a preventative program of motor service, filter replacement
  • Maintains and repairs a variety of plumbing equipment such as water lines, drain lines, drinking fountains, sprinkling systems, sinks, toilets, and valves
  • Delivery and moving of heavy boxes and materials with a lift gate truck
  • Work on ladders and scaffolding
  • Assists other maintenance tradesmen as necessary
  • Substitute bus driver, as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Other Job Factors

 

The following conditions are present – operation of forklifts; tractors, and other vehicles; working around and operation of power tools; walking on uneven ground and exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions when outdoors; exposure to noise and vibration from power equipment (ear plugs and safety glasses are utilized); exposure to dust, contact cement fumes, sawdust, and paint and thinner fumes; exposure to road and traffic conditions in positions requiring driving between work sites; possible exposure to raw sewage when performing plumbing work; periodic work at heights up to 40 feet on ladder, scaffold or roof.  Must have normal or corrected vision.
