The Burlingame School District is seeking a dedicated Gardener-Groundskeeper to join our maintenance team. Under general supervision, you will operate a variety of power equipment and perform essential groundskeeping, gardening, and routine facility maintenance to ensure our school campuses remain welcoming and well-kept for students, staff, and the community. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Landscape Maintenance: Mow, hedge, trim, prune, weed, and water lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. Prepare and fertilize soil to improve plant growth. Equipment Operation & Care: Safely operate motorized lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, lawn vacuums, tractors, and light utility vehicles. Perform routine adjustments, servicing, and repairs on power equipment. Irrigation Systems: Maintain, repair, and operate district sprinkling and irrigation systems. Campus Cleanliness & Safety: Sweep walks and driveways, and pick up trash, paper, and debris. Assist with rodent/pest control and apply insecticides or herbicides as needed. Athletic Fields & Special Events: Maintain athletic fields for school activities. Assist with setting up or moving furniture and equipment for special events. Requirements & Qualifications:Experience: Requires one (1) year of general experience operating grounds maintenance equipment and performing varied, semi-skilled gardening and groundskeeping work. Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to ensure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. License Requirement: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Knowledge & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, safety practices, and power equipment used in grounds maintenance. Ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift/move materials related to groundskeeping. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions, and establish cooperative working relationships with team members. Conditions of Employment: Must be insurable by the District's liability insurance carrier.

POSITION: Gardener - Groundskeeper : 8 hrs per day – 5 days per week (7:00am - 3:30pm), Tuesday - Saturday workdays, 12 months/year-round schedule

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, to operate and maintain a variety of power grounds equipment; to perform grounds-keeping maintenance and gardening functions and activities; and to do other related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Mows, hedges, trims, prunes and waters landscaped areas, prepares and fertilizes soil, plants lawns, etc., weeds, rakes sweeps. Operates various power equipment, hand-held and other; able to make minor repairs on power equipment. Maintain and repair power grounds equipment, sprinkling and irrigation systems, able to spray areas with insecticides and herbicides. May perform grounds-keeping and other maintenance functions such as moving of furniture and equipment for various events; also knowledge of the control of rodents, etc. Perform custodial and other related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools and power equipment used in grounds maintenance, grounds-keeping and gardening work; operation and routine maintenance of power grounds equipment; safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to: Perform semiskilled and varied grounds maintenance, grounds-keeping and gardening work, operate and maintain a variety of equipment safely and skillfully. Perform heavy manual activities related to grounds maintenance, grounds-keeping and gardening work. Understand and carry-out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in gardening, grounds keeping, and/or landscaping is required.

Condition of Employment: Current, valid CA Driver's License. Insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier; Department of Justice clearance through the District will be required. TB clearance required; eligibility to work in US a must.
