The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Job Summary

Under the direction of the site administrator, teacher leadership team, and/or designated program lead, the Teacher designs and facilitates innovative, engaging, student-centered learning experiences that support students in developing academic knowledge, critical thinking skills, collaboration skills, creativity, and intellectual habits through sustained inquiry and meaningful work. Learning within the teacher program may be organized around interdisciplinary projects, inquiry-driven learning experiences, personalized learning pathways, competency-based instruction, blended learning, and project-based instructional models that encourage authentic exploration, collaboration, and demonstration of mastery. The Teacher plays a central role in shaping the learning conditions that allow students to engage deeply with ideas, produce meaningful work, revise and improve performance through feedback cycles, and take increasing ownership of their learning. The teacher develops and implements instructional practices aligned with District curriculum, charter goals, state standards, and operational expectations of the teacher model while supporting student achievement, engagement, innovation, collaboration, and continuous program improvement. The position requires active participation in collaborative planning, instructional innovation, summer training, professional learning, program evaluation, and implementation of charter-specific educational initiatives. The teacher works collaboratively with administrators, instructional leaders, counselors, support staff, families, and community stakeholders to ensure students experience a rigorous, supportive, and engaging educational environment.

Requirements / Qualifications

Must possess a valid Clear California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with CLAD or ELA. Qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required. Required: - Knowledge of California State Standards and instructional best practices; - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in innovative educational environments; - Effective classroom management, facilitation, collaboration, and communication skills; - Ability to analyze student data and implement targeted instructional interventions; - Strong proficiency with educational technology, digital learning platforms, and instructional software; - Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders. Preferred: - Three (3) or more years of successful teaching experience at the middle school and/or high school level; - Experience with innovative instructional models, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, personalized learning, competency-based instruction, blended learning, or interdisciplinary instruction; - Experience in charter schools, pilot programs, advisory systems, mentorship programs, or instructional leadership roles; - Experience with mastery-based or standards-based assessment practices; - Experience facilitating collaborative discussions, student inquiry, and project-based instructional models; - Bilingual abilities are desirable.
