DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION (DLI) ELEMENTARY TEACHER – PRIMARY GRADES
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Dual Language Immersion teacher serves in grades K, 1, 2, and 3,or a combination thereof, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learningand personal growth in both English and the target language in accordance with each student’sability.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
• Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the Districtapproved curriculum in both English and the target language.
• Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction ofstudents with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturity.
• Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivatestudents, including cultural and linguistic nuances to promote a full understanding ofidiomatic expressions, figurative language, and the target language's cultural context.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student control required to achieve effectiveparticipation in all activities.
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.
• Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/District policies,goals and objectives.
• Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences todiscuss the individual student’s progress and interpret the school program.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessingand helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
• Creates an effective learning environment.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by theDistrict and/or professional growth activities and university courses related to secondlanguage acquisition.
• Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method bywhich he/she will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines.
• Cooperates in school wide supervision of students during out of classroom activities.
• Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities,assists in performing minor administrative duties.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
• A valid California Multiple Subjects Teaching credential with BCLAD or equivalentbilingual authorization in target language.
• Read, write, speak and understand the academic vocabulary necessary for developingstudent biliteracy.
Desirable:
• Experience working in a Dual Language Immersion setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of Best Practices for developing student bilingualism and biliteracy.
• Experience in implementing the Essential Components of Instruction (ECI) to promoterigorous academic achievement and consistent student engagement.
WORK YEAR: 184 Days
SALARY: Certificated Salary Schedule ‘A’
