Job Summary

As a Mechanic with the Buildings, Grounds, and Transportation Department with SLCUSD, you will perform minor and major mechanical repairs and maintenance on diesel, natural gas, and gasoline-powered vehicles and light and heavy equipment; will independently perform routine mechanical repair and maintenance work; will serve as a substitute school bus driver as required; and will perform related duties as assigned. The candidate selected for the Mechanic position must possess, or have the ability to obtain during the probationary period, a California commercial driver license and a School Bus Driver Certificate. The candidate selected will also be required to participate in District-provided training for Forklift Operator Certification. SLCUSD offers a great benefits package with contributions toward medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits, as well as 15 paid holidays per year, and generous vacation and sick time allowances. Additionally, employees receive a step increase after passing probation, and and an annual step increase each year after that.

Requirements / Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have at least one year of combined education, training and experience performing maintenance and repair of vehicles and heavy equipment, and will possess the knowledge, skills and abilities as specified in the job description. In addition to the above criteria, a complete and thorough application is also required to advance in the recruitment process.

The current vacancy is for a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Fingerprint clearance, TB clearance, and a pre-employment physical clearance will be required before hire, along with completion of all pre-employment onboarding tasks. Applicants who pass minimum qualification screening will be notified of their eligibility to proceed to a written examination.
