Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal, assist in the instruction and reinforcement of musical concepts for students in choral performance and/or instrumental music; perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel and carry out related work as necessary; assist in the instruction and reinforcement of musical concepts and instrumentation to individuals and groups of students in the classroom, at performances and other events.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: - Any combination equivalent to: an Associate’s Degree in a music field or the equivalent and prior experience in providing piano, instrumental, or vocal accompaniment and music assistance. Additional experience may substitute for higher education. Knowledge of: - Working knowledge of music theory including harmony, notation and transposition. - Basic knowledge of child development. - Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. - Basic music education and appreciation practices and procedures. - Understanding of instruments used in a band or string ensemble. Ability to: - Read, understand and explain musical scores and sheet music including treble, alto and bass clefs, as well as demonstrate counting and rhythm techniques. - Follow the conductor’s tempo and dynamics - Attend and participate in rehearsals and performances. - Plan, prioritize, and organize work to meet schedules and timelines. - Work cooperatively and productively with others of diverse backgrounds. - Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children. - Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. - Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
