Job Summary

Special Education Paraeducators III are assigned to a variety of grade levels, preschool to adult, and a variety of settings, including resource programs, general education classes, special day classes, classrooms for emotionally disturbed students, and as one-to-one support assistance to students. Paraeducator support may be provided in one or more of the settings described below: Current openings TBD for the 2026-27 school year The Special Education Paraeducator III provides specific assistance in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in assigned learning environments; assists in implementing plans for instruction; monitors student behavior during non- classroom time; and provides information to appropriate school personnel. Copy of college transcripts showing AA or AS Degree, or two full years of college coursework (48 semester units or 60 quarter units from an accredited college course with a grade of C or better will count)

  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (Letter of recommendation or character letter (one required))
  • Resume (preferred)

Eligibility list will last for six months for future openings. Must be willing to work in person. Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred. If you prefer to apply as a Para I or II please apply to that posting. *This posting will be accepting external applications to create an eligibility list, as well as a promotional internal eligibility list. *Oral Board Interviews: Tentatively scheduled for Tues July 7, 2026. Make sure all documents are attached to your application as well as all sections completed including work history. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Fingerprint and TB Clearances will be required to obtain prior to starting work once a conditional offer of employment has been made. TEST INFORMATION: ALL APPLICANTS MUST TEST OR SUBMIT A COPY OF TRANSCRIPT. If you wish to be waived from the written examination, you must submit copies of your transcripts with your application, unofficial transcripts can be accepted. If you do not have the required units you will be contacted to take a written examination covering mathematics and writing skills required by minimum qualifications contained in the Class Specification (NCLB Examination). Dates and times for next offered NCLB examinations are as follows: TBD. No late arrivals are permitted. The NCLB exam is offered in person only at the District Office, 1500 Lizzie St. San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. If you need to take this exam, please note this on your application. Allow 2 hours for the examination. Minimum written passing score is 70%. Applications will be screened and evaluated for relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and experience on a job-related basis. Candidates who successfully pass screening and have submitted all required documents will proceed to an oral interview. An oral interview covering personal qualifications, experience, and training is required to becoming established on an eligibility list. Interviews are approximately 20 minutes. Minimum passing score is 70%. Candidates will be contacted for a hiring interview when they have placed in the top three ranks of current eligibility list. If you have not placed in the top three ranks, you will be placed on the eligibility list for six months from the date of the oral boards for other vacancies that may arise during that time. SPECIAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the HR Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview.
