Job Summary
The Elementary and Middle School Band/Music Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive music program for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. This role includes foundational music instruction for younger students and elective-based band/orchestra instruction for middle school students. The teacher will also support the development of the school’s instrumental program, including assisting with instrument acquisition and program setup.
Requirements / Qualifications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for TK–5 students, focusing on foundational musical skills, rhythm, movement, and exposure to instruments. • Teach band and/or orchestra electives for middle school students (grades 6–8), including beginner and potentially intermediate levels. • Develop curriculum aligned with school goals and music education standards. • Prepare students for performances, showcases, or school events as appropriate. • Establish and maintain classroom routines that support a positive and inclusive learning environment. • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and families. • Collaborate with school leadership and staff to integrate music into the broader school culture. • Assist in sourcing, selecting, and maintaining instruments for the school’s music program, including researching vendors, recommending purchases, and managing inventory. • Support the development and growth of the music program over time. QUALIFICATIONS • Multiple Subject Teaching Credential - General Subjects OR Single Subject Teaching Credential – Music or a related field (required). • 1 year experience teaching elementary and/or middle school music. (preferred) • Certification in CPR that meets the standards established by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. • Clear Live Scan Background check & Negative TB test. • Proficiency in at least one band or musical instrument; multi-instrumental ability preferred. • Strong classroom management and organizational skills. • Ability to build a program from the ground up, including instrument acquisition and curriculum development. • Strong communication and collaboration skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience starting or expanding a school music program. • Familiarity with both band and orchestral instruction. • Experience working in a TK–8 or charter school setting.
WORK SCHEDULE •Part-time position; schedule to be determined based on school needs and course offerings.
