Summary: Under the supervision and direction of the PVUSD Children’s Center Coordinator the children center teacher plans and provides environments and instruction for the child development programs that meet the guidelines of the California Child Development Division; teach school readiness preschool program, supports parent volunteers, provide parent education, and implement language development and literacy curriculum. Essential Functions: Plans and conducts individual and group activities to stimulate growth across the learning domains Implements bilingual/bicultural curriculum and serves as model for language development Plans, creates, maintains, and assesses the learning environment of the classroom. Works with students and staff in supporting standards for positive behavior and pro-social development Uses a variety of activities, resources and strategies for instruction Assists children with self-care and daily living routines. Documents and evaluates children’s progress: creates and carries out activity plans to meet group and individual needs Collaborates with program and classroom teams Communicates with parents through ongoing informal connections, parent education materials and conferences. Supports school readiness a transition activities for children as they enter the K-12 classrooms. Assumes role of professional through ongoing teacher learning and goal setting. The children’s center teacher over sees the activities of teacher assistants and parent volunteers in the classroom. Teachers will provide the preschool instructional and parent involvement program and will assist with curriculum and parent education

Education and Experience:
Recommended education and certification could include: Valid California Credential or minimum of Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or have enough college education to qualify for the Child Development Permit.

Abilities:
Requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, solve practical problems, deal with a variety of classroom and program variables.

Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
