THE POSITION: The Coordinator III, Child Welfare and Attendance Unit, serves as the subject matter expert in school attendance, discipline and interdistrict permit and expulsion appeals. The Coordinator III serves as the LACOE School Attendance Review Board (SARB) County Chairperson, represents LACOE on the State SARB and supports local SARB Chairpersons to create collaborative, non-punitive pathways to restore students back into the school environment. This position will provide Tier III intensive intervention supports for local educational agencies identified for differentiated assistance (DA) to address Chronic Absenteeism rates. The Coordinator III will work collaboratively with the local SPS team members with trainings to districts concerning chronic absenteeism, discipline, and other needed supports to improve school climate. The Coordinator III position also provides oversight of the Interdistrict Permit and Expulsion Appeal process, including providing supervision of the Administrative Analyst, Administrative Aide and Senior Typist Clerks. The Coordinator III provides technical, specialized, consultative, advisory, and planning services in the Division of Student Support Services to Local Education Agencies (LEA) across Los Angeles County. This position will plan, organize, develop, recommend, and evaluate programs, processes, and procedures; serve as a resource to local educational agencies and LACOE staff in the assigned area of specialization; conduct special studies and in-services; monitor legislation and provide interpretation and guidance; update publications annually and perform related duties as assigned. Requirements / Qualifications
Experience: Five or more years of comprehensive, directly related and progressive experience as a classroom teacher, K-12 administrator, school social worker, school counselor or school psychologist, including three years of administrative experience working specifically in the specified field, particularly in the area of student support services and/or child welfare and attendance. Education: Equivalent to a Master’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or psychology or closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE • Possess and maintain a valid California Administrative or Supervisory Credential. • Possess and maintain a valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential.
