ABOUT THE POSITON

Long Beach City College is seeking qualified instructors to deliver employer-sponsored electrical technology training for employees at local companies. This training is designed to support workforce upskilling and strengthen employee knowledge in electrical theory, electrical systems, safety, troubleshooting, and related industrial applications.

The instructor will provide engaging, job-relevant instruction for adult learners in classroom, lab, or workplace settings. Assignments may vary based on employer needs, instructor expertise, and training schedules.

 

Training may cover a range of electrical technology topics, including:

 

• AC and DC electrical theory and principles

• Electrical mathematics, algebra, and trigonometry for technicians

• Motors, generators, electric motors, and motor controls

• Conductors, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and switchboards

• Solid-state electrical fundamentals

• Variable speed drives and industrial controls

• Programmable logic controllers

• Robotics and automation technology integration

• Electrical labs, troubleshooting, and hands-on applications

• Electrical safety, high-voltage awareness, and program preparation

Duties

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The instructor will design and deliver customized training aligned with employer needs, contract education requirements, approved course outlines, and learning objectives. Duties may include preparing lessons, adapting instructional materials for incumbent workers, facilitating classroom and hands-on instruction, demonstrating electrical concepts and procedures, evaluating participant progress, and maintaining a safe and professional learning environment.

 

Instruction may include lecture, lab demonstrations, hands-on exercises, equipment operation, troubleshooting activities, safety practices, and applied workplace scenarios.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Must not be employed by LBCC

• Qualified candidates should possess a combination of education, training, and professional experience in electrical technology, industrial electricity, electrical maintenance, or a closely related field.

• Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, lockout/tagout, and other applicable safety practices

• Experience with PLCs, automation systems, variable speed drives, robotics, or industrial maintenance systems

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

• Prior teaching, training, apprenticeship, or workforce development experience

• Relevant certifications, licenses, or industry credentials

• Experience delivering customized training for employers or incumbent workers
