Job Summary

Golden Charter Academy seeks a highly qualified and visionary Director of Curriculum and Instruction to serve as the school's central instructional leader responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a rigorous, standards-aligned TK–8 academic program. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction plays a critical leadership role in advancing the school's mission to develop civic-minded, environmentally literate scholars who demonstrate academic excellence, critical thinking, and leadership within their communities. This position serves as the bridge between classroom instruction and schoolwide systems, ensuring curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning are aligned to produce measurable student outcomes. Advanced academic preparation, including a doctorate in educational leadership or a related field, may be considered qualifying experience for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities (see full details in Job Description) Curriculum Leadership and Development -Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a guaranteed and viable curriculum across TK–8. -Ensure alignment between the written, taught, and tested curriculum Instructional Leadership -Establish and maintain high levels of academic rigor across all grade levels and content areas. -Ensure instruction consistently reflects grade-level standards and best instructional practices. Assessment and Data Systems -Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive assessment system. -Coordinate the strategic use of CAASPP-aligned assessments, including SBAC Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) and Focused IABs (FIABs). Instructional Coaching and Professional Development -Provide ongoing instructional coaching through observations, feedback cycles, co-planning, and modeling. -Design and facilitate professional learning aligned with school priorities and student achievement goals. Civic-Based and Place-Based Learning Leadership -Lead the integration of civic education, place-based learning, and environmental stewardship within the academic program. -Ensure these instructional approaches are embedded within standards-based instruction rather than treated as supplemental programs. Environmental Science and Urban Agriculture Program Development -Support the development and implementation of an environmental science and urban agriculture program. -Ensure alignment with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) frameworks. Equity and Culturally Responsive Instruction -Lead the development of the school's instructional philosophy and equity framework. -Promote culturally relevant and culturally responsive instructional practices. Leadership and Schoolwide Systems -Collaborate with administration to establish and monitor academic goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -Deep knowledge of California State Standards and instructional frameworks. -Expertise in curriculum design, instructional leadership, assessment, and data analysis. -Knowledge of CAASPP, SBAC Interim Assessment Blocks, and accountability systems. -Strong understanding of evidence-based instructional practices and effective teaching methodologies. -Ability to coach, mentor, and develop instructional staff. -Experience designing and facilitating professional development. -Knowledge of project-based learning, civic education, environmental literacy, and place-based learning. -Understanding of culturally responsive teaching and equity-centered instructional practices. -Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. -Ability to build collaborative relationships and lead systems-level improvement efforts. Minimum Qualifications -Valid California Teaching Credential. -Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience. -Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, educational leadership, or related responsibilities. -Demonstrated success improving student achievement and instructional outcomes. -Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications -Administrative Services Credential. -Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field. -Experience serving in a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), instructional coach, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, principal, or district leadership role. -Experience leading schoolwide curriculum, assessment, and instructional improvement initiatives. -Knowledge of Marzano instructional frameworks and curriculum alignment models.
