Requirements / Qualifications

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, candidate will transcribe a variety of complex instructional materials into an appropriate media such as braille, large type, or raised line drawings; prepare necessary specialized equipment and materials for visually impaired students to receive regular school information; perform a variety of office support duties.

Education and Qualifications: Certification in braille preferred, or possess knowledge of braille. Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school OR evidence of equivalent educational proficiency and two years of experience working with the visually impaired population in a classroom or in an organized setting. Knowledge of braille programs (such as Duxbury, Open Book, and Nemeth Math) and other specialized equipment to assist students with visual impairment with learning exercises and communication using an electronic device as well as basic subjects taught in district schools, basic principles of mobility instruction and safe campus environment practices. Candidate will assist a Visually Impaired specialist, classroom teacher, and other professionals in designing, implementing, and modifying visually impaired-based instructional programs for students with visual impairment at various levels of severity. Possession of a valid California Driver's License and ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct work required.
