JOB TITLE: EDUCATION SPECIALIST (SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER) SCHOOL YEAR: 2026-27 SALARY: DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE (SEE SALARY SCHEDULE) JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Site/Program Administrator or his/her designee, Blue Oak School teachers will provide an effective educational program for students. Teachers will assess the academic needs and identify the learning styles of their students in order to guide individual and large group instruction; maintain a safe and orderly learning environment; establish relationships’ emphasize academic learning utilizing effective instructional strategies, techniques to support student achievement. Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Serve as a member of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team for all students Responsible for instructing students identified as having exceptional needs, regardless of grade level, in accordance with the plan outlined by the Individual Education Program (IEP) for each student enrolled in special education. Evaluates and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of students, in cooperation with the parents, administration and teaching staff. Coordinates special education services with regular school programs for each individual with exceptional needs. Provides consultation, resource information, and materials regarding individuals with exceptional needs to their parent(s)/guardian and staff members. Confers frequently with parent(s)/guardian and professional staff members on each student’s progress. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Site/Program Administrator or his/her designee, Blue Oak School teachers will provide an effective educational program for students. Teachers will assess the academic needs and identify the learning styles of their students in order to guide individual and large group instruction; maintain a safe and orderly learning environment; establish relationships’ emphasize academic learning utilizing effective instructional strategies, techniques to support student achievement. 

 

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Serve as a member of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team for all students

  11. At the appropriate time during the academic year provides:

    1. A summary of the student’s progress in terms of progress toward the IEP goal.

    2. The results of specific measures of the student’s progress.

    3. A summary of the methods and/or materials utilized in the student’s instructional program.

  12. Assumes responsibility of written reports for IEPs, writing IEPs, including measurable annual goals and short-term objectives of IEPs for the identified students after obtaining input from appropriate IEP members.

  13. Supervise/train paraprofessionals supporting special education students

  14. Performs other related special education duties as specified by the Executive Director and/or the Director of Special Education.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or the Director of Special Education this individual shall possess the following:

  1. A current, clear California Education Specialist Credential or obtain a long-term emergency credential while working toward a full teaching credential, showing annual progress as required by the State of California;

  2. Prior teaching experience in Special Education

  3. Fingerprinting through licensing required before employment.

  4. Waldorf experience (preferred)

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Keeps abreast of all types of new instructional strategies, technology and materials that might be used in remedial instruction.

  2. Maintains professional competence by participation in special in-service training sessions offered by the school and the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear their surrounding environment. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and some lifting is required. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
