General Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Early Care & Education Coordinator, the ECE 1-2-3 Grow & Learn Specialist provides support services to children Birth-5 and their families. Through these play groups, specialists are able to provide resources and supports to families and the community. 

Assignment:

The person in this role will be hired as a temporary employee and will work 12 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday). The position is not benefit eligible. The role requires a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), health exam and TB test, and proof of MMR vaccination or exemption prior to starting. 

 

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide comprehensive early learning through parent/child playgroups, and other support services.
  2. Provide parent education to promote involvement in child development.
  3. Plan, lead, and facilitate group activities.
  4. Administer and evaluate developmental screenings and/or other assessments for children ages 0 - 5 years and adult participants.
  5. Facilitate referrals and connections with community agencies; assist families with self-advocacy efforts.
  6. Participate in staff training and development activities.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies and partners.
  8. Compile data and submit required forms, evaluations, and data reports.
  9. Conduct outreach activities to recruit participants.
  10. Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Other Functions:

  1. Uphold the Vision, Values and Commitment to Professionalism of the ECE Department at ESD 112.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Associate's degree in Early Care and Education, Human Development, Family Studies, Child Development, Education, Sociology, Psychology, or Social Work, or related field OR a High School diploma with 4 years of experience working with families and children ages 0-5 (with a Professional Development plan in place to achieve an Associate's within 5 years)
  2. Experience using computer software to manage data, maintain files and submit reports. (i.e. Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs, etcetera)

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Experience working in a parent/child playgroup or early childhood classroom setting.
  2. Experience providing comprehensive services to children birth to five years in one or more of the following content areas: health, early childhood education, nutrition, mental health, and/or children with disabilities.
  3. Experience working with community and social service resources.
  4. Experience working with low-income and at-risk families.
  5. Bilingual English/Spanish.

 

Working Conditions/Employment Requirements

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  1. Physical work environment may include office setting and frequent visits to community work sites.
  2. Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.

Employment Requirements - ESD job offer is contingent upon satisfying the following:

  1. Successful completion of a criminal history through Washington State Patrol and fingerprint check through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
  2. Required to complete an Associate's degree within five years of hire date.
  3. Health Exam. 
  4. Tuberculosis test to meet state health standards. 
  5. Proof of MMR vaccination or exemption. 
  6. Food handler's card.
