Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and/or Program Manager, the SPED TOSA provides instructional leadership, coaching, technical assistance, and compliance support to special education staff. The TOSA serves as a resource to teachers, administrators, and related service providers to ensure high-quality special education programming and implementation of district initiatives. Program Implementation & Instructional Support 1. Support implementation of evidence-based instructional practices for students with disabilities. 2. Provide coaching and mentoring to special education teachers, including new teachers and interns. 3. Assist staff with curriculum access, accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction. 4. Support implementation of inclusive practices and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) opportunities. 5. Assist teams in developing systems of support for students with intensive behavioral, communication, and academic needs. 6. Support classroom organization, schedules, and instructional systems. IEP and Compliance Support 7. Review IEPs for procedural compliance and quality prior to meetings. 8. Support teams in developing legally compliant goals, services, accommodations, and behavior supports. 9. Monitor timelines related to assessments, annual reviews, and triennial evaluations. 10. Support implementation of IEPs with fidelity. 11. Provide SEIS technical support 12. Assist with CDE compliance reviews Coaching and Professional Development 1. Mentor new special education teachers. 2. Assist with districtwide professional development. 3. Provide modeling, observation, feedback, and coaching cycles to new teachers 4. Support paraprofessional training and development. 5. Support implementation of AAC systems and assistive technology. 6. Assist with transition planning and Support teams in addressing attendance, engagement, and access concerns.
Requirements / Qualifications
This position requires a valid Clear California Special Education Credential with Autism Authorization and five or more years of teaching. Prior experience as an instructional coach, mentor and/or resource teacher is desirable; Teaching experience and expertise in English Learner education; or bilingual skills desirable.
