  5. Knowledge of and ability to implement the subject matter, philosophical, social, and educational concepts relative to the duties and responsibilities listed on this job description
    1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    2. As a Director of Learning
      1. Teaches knowledge and skills in a general art program which may include crafts, photography and principles of publication (yearbook), utilizing goals, objectives and the course of study adopted by the Board of Education
      2. Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
      3. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and working time
      4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
      5. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment
      6. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
      7. Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports
      8. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
      9. Acts as resource person on an inter-departmental level to relate appropriate aspects of art to other subject areas
      10. Relationships and Related Responsibilities
        1. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment
        2. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
        3. Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual pupil’s progress
        4. Identifies students’ needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
        5. Professional Attitude, Responsibilities and Participation
          1. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records
          2. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work for the school and the community. May sponsor exhibits from outside sources
          3. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans
          4. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
          5. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required
          6. Shares in sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees
          7. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other professionals
