Job Summary

District Nurse at AVS and West Side School Districts The School Nurse, under the supervision of the Superintendent, conducts a health services program for the evaluation, improvement, and protection of the health of pupils and school personnel in accordance with state law and district policies and procedures. Major Duties and Responsibilities • Assess student health needs using current available records and by performing screening exams (vision, hearing, scoliosis, QNST, developmental assessments). • Assess immunization status. Verify that incoming students have completed all required immunizations. • Serve as a member of the IEP team as needed, performing assessments and conducting parent/ guardian interviews. • Monitor students with special health care needs; recommend interventions and modifications to educational program, training Staff, counseling and referring parents, etc. as needed. • Provide lessons in family life and human development appropriate to grade level. • Participate in the development and delivery of health-related training for students and Staff. • Supervise and monitor student medication and treatment. • Instruct students in maintaining or improving their health, in accordance with the State health framework. • Maintain accurate and current student health records, including a confidential list of students with health concerns. • Maintain state reports as mandated by law. • Consult in incidents of student illness or injury. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of: Professional nursing standards and practices School nurse practices and State health framework, Current health-related mandates and legislation Make nursing decisions in an objective and competent manner. Interact positively with Staff, parents, and students Work with diverse groups of students with special needs School District RN experience preferred, but not required.
