Job Summary

Assistant Principal, High School - 205 days Description: Under the supervision of the school principal, serves as a co-administrator with the principal, performing duties as assigned by the principal involving major portions of the school operation. Assumes administrative responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. Example of Duties: Supervises assigned departments of subjects of instruction and provides leadership to the instructional program Works with department heads and faculty in compiling annual budget requests Supervises and evaluates the performance of classified and certificated personnel assigned by the principal. Assists in developing the master schedule of the school, including teacher assignments, room assignments, data processing coding, and school organization Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of a school-wide program for the supervision and control of students. Confers with pupils, parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, and representatives of social agencies to resolve serious pupil academic, attendance, and behavioral problems. Participants in the planning, organization, and supervision of the schools co-curricular and extracurricular programs. Provides overall supervision for the library/media center, including library services, textbooks, audio-visual equipment and supplies. Assigns, supervises and evaluates substitute teachers and volunteers. Assists the principal in interpreting the district and school educational program to staff, parents, and community. Maintains and supports standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current school discipline policy in accordance with the current school discipline policy approved by the Board of Trustees. Coordinates and supervises the onsite pupil services program which includes guidance, counseling, health services and testing. CA Administrative Credential 5. Supplemental Writing (see below) Supplemental Questions - Please respond to the following two (2) supplemental questions and include with your application: 1. Identify three key qualities that define you as a leader. How would these qualities shape your leadership style and guide your work as a high school assistant principal? 2. Describe how you would approach your first year as a high school assistant principal to understand the school’s culture, academic focus, and student needs. Include the actions you would take to build and sustain effective relationships with students, staff, and families.
