Job Summary

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) provides district-wide executive leadership for technology strategy, data governance, instructional technology, cybersecurity governance, and innovation. The CTO defines the long-term vision for technology use across the District and ensures alignment with instructional priorities, operational goals, equity initiatives, and regulatory requirements. The CTO works with a committed technology team and other district leaders to apply standout combination of intuition for the future needs of students and current technical knowledge. The CTO will determine professional development for school employees, conduct educational research and perform other duties as assigned related to student success. The CTO leads transformational initiatives, including artificial intelligence (AI), that prepare students and staff for a rapidly evolving digital environment. This position will also define the District’s technological objectives and be responsible for ensuring that fiscally responsible solutions reliably meet the needs of students and staff, now and into the future.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: • Minimum of five (5) years of management experience in education or technology related field required. • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and in a field related to information technology, education, or related field required. Desirable Qualifications: • Five (5) years of experience within a public agency. • Five (5) years of administrative experience in leading, supervising, and managing personnel in the technological field. • Previous experience with obtaining, and/or managing grant funded projects or equipment. • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in assessment, technology, education research, program evaluation, measurement, statistics, or other related field desired. • Completion of the California Educational Technology Professionals Association (CETPA) Chief Technology Officer Mentor Program. Three Letters of Recommendation and a resume are required along with the completed application.

This role requires a visionary and dynamic leader with strong problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills who can effectively guide a district’s technology strategy while inspiring and influencing diverse stakeholders. The individual must possess deep knowledge of emerging technological trends, cloud-based systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI, and educational development, along with a firm command of professional communication standards. Responsibilities center on planning, directing, and evaluating all technology operations and services, including classroom integration, network systems, data management, and instructional tools, while aligning initiatives with district goals and Board priorities. The position also involves advising leadership on innovations and risks, supervising staff, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring equitable access to digital resources. A key focus is developing and implementing a forward-looking technology and AI vision, including governance, ethical guidelines, and high-impact applications that enhance instruction and operations. Additionally, the role requires continuous program evaluation, stakeholder communication, and staff support to promote effective technology use, all while maintaining composure and adaptability in a fast-paced environment and meeting the physical demands associated with administrative and operational duties.
