The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP
The position of High School Athletic Director is a full-time teaching position reporting directly to
the Principal.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A teaching period is provided for this position which includes the following duties and
responsibilities:
1. Inform all student athletes and coaches of their responsibilities for maintaining high levels of good sportsmanship;
2. coordinate all athletic activities on the high school campus;
3. assist in selection and training of the coaching staff;
4. prepare all contracts with other school;
5. represent the school in League and CIF meetings;
6. be present at all home athletic contests;
7. provide supervision of athletic contests;
8. attend staff and administrative site meetings; and
9. other duties as assigned by the Principal.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Valid California teaching credential
2. Successful coaching experience at the Varsity level
3. Demonstrated leadership ability in school-related coaching and athletics
4. A good workable relationship with high school students
Requirements / Qualifications
Must possess a valid California Single Subject Teaching credential with CLAD or ELA. CBEST (or other qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing) is required. **Successful coaching experience at the Varsity level preferred**

- Credential Copy (document MUST SHOW document number and current expiration date)
- English Learner Authorization (or CLAD)
- Letter of Introduction
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (Two letters of recommendation written within the last year)
- Resume
- Test Results/Materials (Basic Skills Requirement (BA/ MA transcripts acceptable))
