Position:  Teach Middle School Science

WISH will send highly qualified candidates to PLTW Biomedical Science Training. WISH Academy utilizes Project Lead The Way (PLTW). PLTW is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in middle and high schools across the U.S.  

STEM education is at the heart of today’s high-tech, high-skill global economy. For America to remain economically competitive, our next generation of leaders -- the students of today -- must develop the critical-reasoning and problem-solving skills that will help make them the most productive in the world.

PLTW's comprehensive curriculum for engineering and biomedical sciences has been collaboratively designed by PLTW teachers, university educators, engineering and biomedical professionals and school administrators to promote critical thinking, creativity, innovation and real-world problem solving skills in students.
WISH Academy will fund professional development in this area for two courses per year for each PLTW teacher.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Teach Middle school Science 

  • Instruct students on the study of living things integrating PLTW curricula

  • Communicate effectively with students and staff at different technology skill levels to support instruction and advance educational goals

  • Provide constructive criticism and feedback to students and colleagues

  • Perform experiments in class to enhance lecture component

  • Use project-based learning framework for lesson delivery

  • Respond to student, parent, and mentor inquiries

  • Hold seminars and lectures and partner with local organizations

  • Write grant proposals to gain funding for further research

  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in biology and bio-technology

  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans

  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of all the students served.

  • Develop incentives to keep participants excited and engaged in class

  • Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs

  • Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met

Requirements / Qualifications

WISH Charter Middle School is seeking a STEM educator for the 2026-2027 school year. Teachers at WISH are expected to be knowledgeable about child cognitive development and various learning styles and modalities. We request that candidates have experience in working collaboratively. Co-teaching experience will be highly desirable. Other qualifications will include: • Bachelors degree • Valid California Single Subject Credentials or Teaching Authorizations. • English Language Learner Authorization required • NCLB Highly Qualified • CLAD or BCLAD certificates; • Demonstrated subject competence through appropriate examination or coursework; • Background clearance from FBI/DOJ • TB clearance All core subject teachers will be “highly qualified,” as that term is defined under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and further defined by California state regulations implementing the NCLB requirements unless such requirements are not deemed by the federal or state government to apply to charter schools such as WISH.
