About the Employer

San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program (also known as SGVROP) was originally founded in 1970 as a Joint Powers Agency. The ROP provides high school students with industry required technical skills for high demand jobs. SGVROP is accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). Career Technical Education (CTE) classes are offered in a multitude of Career Pathways at the high school sites within six member school districts (Azusa, Baldwin Park, Charter Oak, Glendora, San Gabriel, and Walnut). Most ROP classes include simulated hands-on learning opportunities at a local business in the community. We welcome highly qualified, skilled professionals to join our committed and dedicated staff in providing all students with the highest quality academic and technical skills necessary to become successful.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is project-based and designed to provide students with hands-on use of software applications while studying computer concepts such as accessing and transmitting information in a networked environment. Students will learn the processes associated with system administration and planning, acquiring, installing, and implementing software and systems. Learning to work in teams in order to understand client needs, evaluate different possible solutions, pricing systems within budget constraints, and understand continual improvement cycles are goals. The IT Essentials (ITE) course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer hardware and software, mobile devices, security and networking concepts, and the responsibilities of an IT professional. This includes mobile devices, Linux, and client side virtualization, as well as expanded information about Microsoft Windows operating systems, security, networking, and troubleshooting. This course incorporates several hands-on experiences. Therefore, the labs provide the instructor with several opportunities to assess the student formally and informally through pragmatic and observable activities. Consequently, the student will have a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge through several means.
