Job Summary

Job Summary

Capital City Independent Study School (CCS) is a public alternative K–12 school within the Sacramento City Unified School District serving approximately 200–300 students in Sacramento. CCS provides a flexible, student-centered independent study program through a hybrid model that includes both in-person and online learning environments. CCS serves a diverse student population that reflects the Sacramento community, including English learners, students receiving Special Education services, and students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Students receive support through learning labs, one-on-one advisory, and small-group instruction designed to meet their academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs. The Principal of CCS will provide visionary and collaborative leadership for an innovative alternative education program focused on equity, student engagement, personalized learning, and strong relationships. The principal will oversee instructional programs, independent study compliance, MTSS/student support systems, staff development, and family and community partnerships while fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in alternative education and/or independent study programs, strong instructional leadership skills, and a commitment to culturally responsive practices and educational equity. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to support innovative instructional models, build collaborative teams, and promote positive student outcomes through strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Requirements / Qualifications

TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required. Advanced degrees are preferred. A minimum of five years of certificated experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional middle school teaching experience, administrative, or supervisorial experience at the middle level. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Hold a valid Administrative Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is required.
