Job Summary

Job Summary

The ROCS’ Special Educator is an integral part of the school’s instructional leadership team and responsible for overseeing the program of children with mental, psychological, learning, behavioral or physical disabilities. With specialized expertise in the instruction of students with special learning needs within the mainstream classroom, the Specialist collaborates with the site principal and teachers to ensure that the needs of all students are met. The Special Education Teacher works under the direction of the Educational Specialist and the School Site Principal to develop a comprehensive suite of resources and processes for the identification, placement, and support of students across the spectrum of academic ability. In addition, the Special Education Teacher will maintain and monitor special education data for their students.

IEP Development & Case Management

Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal requirements

Monitor student progress and update goals, accommodations, and services as needed

Prepare and facilitate IEP meetings in collaboration with families and staff

Assessment

Assess students’ academic, social-emotional, and functional skills

Determine students’ educational needs using formal and informal assessment tools

Use assessment data to inform instruction and intervention planning

Instruction & Behavior Support

Adapt general education lessons to meet individual student needs

Plan and deliver instruction tailored to each student’s abilities

Provide instruction in whole-class, small-group, and one-on-one settings either in the General or Special Education Classrooms

Support positive behavior through proactive strategies and individualized behavior plans

Collaboration & Supervision

Work closely with classroom teachers, specialists, admnistration, and support staff

Collaborate with the Paraprofessional Supervisor to support student services

Train, mentor, and support paraprofessionals working with students

Compliance

Ensure all special education services and documentation meet state and federal regulations

Maintain accurate and timely records

Qualifications

Appropriate state certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)

Experience with IEP development and implementation preferred

Strong collaboration and communication skills

Commitment to inclusive education and child-centered practices

Interns and early-career educators are welcome to apply

Knowledge regarding Waldorf Education and Philosophy preferred, but not required
