Job Summary

Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA, seeks an Academic Counselor/Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This role combines teaching at least two classes with providing academic counseling to support student success while upholding the school's Catholic mission. Candidates must be committed to fostering student success in both academic and personal growth while upholding the school’s Catholic mission. Seeking collaborative, passionate educators with strong classroom management, organizational skills, and expertise in academic counseling and curriculum development. Must be effective communicators who actively engage with students, parents, and faculty. Key Responsibilities -Faith & Professionalism: Support a faith-based educational environment, engage in professional development, and fulfill assigned duties. - Academic Counseling: Guide students in course selection, college/career planning, and financial aid; monitor progress and collaborate on support plans. - Instruction & Curriculum: Teach at least two courses using an inquiry-based approach, employ varied assessments, and develop/submit curriculum plans on schedule. - Classroom & Student Support: Maintain a structured learning environment, provide individualized instruction, and support students’ academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. - Communication & Technology: Maintain regular communication with stakeholders, update Gradebook weekly, and utilize Google Suite and SIS platforms like PowerSchool. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field. Experience in academic counseling at the high school level. Strong understanding of high school graduation and college entrance requirements. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching Credential and/or Masters California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential preferred. Bilingual and fluent (writing and speaking) in English and Spanish
