Special Education Special Day Class Teacher, Mild/Moderate DEFINITION Provides an instructional program for students who are identified as having a disability which impacts the student to the extent that he/she is unable to be appropriately served in a less restrictive environment. Provides specific remedial instruction and teaches students means of enhancing their strengths. Serves as a consultant to parents and staff in all areas related to the special day class program EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Plans and implements an individualized instructional program for students that is consistent with the instructional goals and objectives stated in each student's Individualized Education Plan. Provide instruction individually and in small groups in the academic areas of reading, math, language arts, social studies, science or any other, as designated, in each student’s Individual Education Plan. Provide instruction in the areas of perception, self-help skills, responsibility or any other as designated in each student’s Individual Education Plan. . Instructs students in IEP designated standards-based curriculum at appropriate levels. Works with the principal and regular education staff to provide main­streaming opportunities, as appropriate. Communicates effectively and coordinates instruction with regular education classroom teachers concerning students who are mainstreamed. Plans, coordinates, and collaborates with staff in the direct implementation of positive behavior supports at the classroom wide or individual level in support of student access to their educational programming Provides consultant services to regular classroom teachers in the identification of assessment of learning and behavior patterns in pupils.
