Reimagine school. Support students. Change lives. At ChallengeU, we do high school differently! We're a fully online dropout recovery and prevention high school, dedicated to helping students aged 14–21 who have fallen behind or disconnected from traditional education. Through flexibility, compassion, and personalized support, we help students reclaim their path to graduation.
Note: While this is primarily a remote position, team members must attend in-person training and travel within Ohio to proctor required state assessments.
What You'll Do
As a Virtual Math Teacher (9–12), you'll deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction and support credit recovery for students who need a fresh start. Your day-to-day will include:
Math Maestro: Deliver synchronous and asynchronous Math instruction aligned to Ohio standards using our learning platform — covering Algebra I & II, Geometry, Math Modeling & Reasoning, Financial Math, Math III/IV, and foundational/remedial courses as needed.
Feedback Guru: Monitor and grade student work, providing individualized feedback that meets students where they are academically and emotionally.
Connection Captain: Maintain strong, consistent communication with students, families, and graduation coaches to keep everyone aligned on progress and next steps.
IEP Ally: Collaborate with the Special Education team to support IEP accommodations and ensure every student has equitable access to instruction.
Data Detective: Monitor academic progress using student data tools and LMS platforms, adjusting instruction based on what the numbers are telling you.
Assessment Architect: Prepare students for state assessments and graduation requirements — and travel in person as needed to proctor standardized testing.
Office Hours Hero: Provide virtual office hours and small-group tutoring to give students the extra support they need to succeed.
Team Player: Participate in student support planning and interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing your voice to holistic student success strategies.
Who You Are
A seasoned virtual educator with at least 3 years of real online teaching experience (not just pandemic-era emergency mode).
Deeply familiar with virtual platforms like Google Suite, learning management systems, Peardeck, and digital communication tools.
Skilled at building relationships with at-risk youth in nontraditional or high-support learning environments.
Flexible, student-centered, and able to differentiate instruction and personalize learning pathways.
Organized, proactive, and an excellent communicator in writing and on screen.
Motivated to be part of a mission-driven team building better outcomes for students who need it most.
What You'll Need
Licensure: Valid Ohio Teaching License in Math (Grades 7–12 or 9–12) — required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field — required.
Experience: Proven track record teaching Algebra, Geometry, foundational, and/or higher-level math courses.
Virtual Teaching: Demonstrated success with virtual instruction including grading, pacing, and online engagement strategies.
Tech Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with Google Classroom, online grading tools, data platforms, and LMS environments.
Location & Travel: Must reside in Ohio (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, Athens, or surrounding areas) with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for in-person testing support.
Remote Ready: Reliable high-speed internet and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
