THE POSITION: The Coordinator I- GEMS, Multilingual Academic Supports, shall act as a subject matter expert and lead regional efforts to improve outcomes for English learner (EL) students. In this capacity, the Coodinator I shall provide sustained, data-driven support to local educational agencies (LEAs); conduct professional development; assess and determine program needs; implement program objectives; serve as a liaison with other agencies; and perform related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This class is distinguished from other classes in the following ways: This position requires specialized subject matter expertise in multilingual learner education, comprehensive English Language Development (ELD), and the California English Learner Roadmap. The Coordinator I-GEMS will demonstrate a strong record of leading systems-level improvement efforts that strengthen outcomes for English learners and long-term English learners through data-driven planning, coaching, and technical assistance. The position requires the ability to build regional capacity by coordinating professional learning that centers the linguistic, cultural, and academic strengths of multilingual students. The leader must possess strong communication and facilitation skills, knowledge of the principles of continues improvement, and the ability to guide differentiated support for LEAs with varying levels of need and readiness.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: Five or more years of directly related and progressive teaching experience that includes extensive experience working with English Learners. District-level English Language Development coaching and program oversight is desired. Education: A Bachelor’s degree and appropriate teaching credentials from an institution of higher learning accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. A Master’s degree is preferred. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE (All applicants must attach credential with document number to their application. Please do not attach the certificate copy of your Credential.): • Possess a valid California teaching credential (Multiple Subject or Single Subject). • Possess an Administrative Services Credential. • Must hold a full English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent)
