JOB TITLE: Irrigation Specialist Job Family: Maintenance & Operations Range: 36 Report Identification Code = mirrig Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of "Irrigation Specialist" is done for the purpose/s of performing and supervising maintenance and repair work involving one or more specialized skills in grounds and grounds equipment maintenance; possess a high degree of skill to perform complex tasks related to grounds maintenance and repair, possess appropriate valid license(s); work independently and may serve in a lead role for other ground workers for specific projects. Essential Job Functions: * Performs groundskeeping tasks related to water distribution and irrigation systems. * Performs groundskeeping tasks related to safe application of chemical sprays. * Performs groundskeeping tasks related to landscaping modifications and refurbishment. * Maintains inventories of equipment and supplies. * Keeps basic records. * When not engaged in grounds maintenance or repair duties, may assist as required in a variety of groundskeeping work throughout the District. * Installs and maintains irrigation backflow prevention devices. * Installs, programs and repairs automated irrigation timing controllers. * Installs, maintains and repairs irrigation booster pump systems. * Diagnoses and corrects irrigation problems due to valve and other equipment malfunctions, design flaws and turf/landscape management difficulties. * Calculates irrigation pressure requirements for existing and planned systems to include gallons per minute and spray radius specifications. * Develops equipment and turf/landscape specifications for new irrigation systems and redesigned systems. Other Job Functions: * Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. * Evaluates landscaped areas, equipment, sprinkler systems and grounds (e.g. fields, parking areas, etc.) for the purpose of identifying repairs and/or replacement needs, maintain schedules and preventing erosion. * Requests materials, supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner. * Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks. Job Requirements - Qualifications: * Experience Required: Three (3) years prior job related experience with progressive experience in landscape and irrigation maintenance. * Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to read and interpret plans; operate equipment in safe manner, perform basic math necessary to calculate fertilizer and chemical applications. Knowledge of methods and use of tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance; safe work practices standards for safe use of fertilizers, chemicals and equipment. Ability to walk for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, far visual acuity. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions, including the reading of working drawings, blueprints and plans. * Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent. * Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, negative pre-employment drug screen test and negative TB test results. Successful completion of District Proficiency Test.
