The Willits Unified School District serves 1500+ students in grades TK–12 from the City of Willits and surrounding areas. Committed to the small campus environment our district is composed of four traditional schools: Brookside Elementary (TK-2), Blosser Lane Elementary (3-5), Baechtel Grove Middle School (6-8), and Willits High School (9-12). In addition to our traditional schools our alternative programs offer students a variety of choices within our district’s governance: Sherwood Elementary (K-5) and Sanhedrin Alternative High School (9-12). We are located in scenic Mendocino County, in the small town of Willits, CA. Willits is about three hours north of San Francisco on the 101, and is the ideal central location from which to enjoy the exceptional beauty of Mendocino County. To the north are the majestic redwoods and the Eel River, to the south award-winning wineries, and to the west is the rugged Mendocino Coast. Under the supervision of the principal and the school Athletic Director, coach students in a specific sport during the established season at the Middle School/High School. Requirements / Qualifications
- Coach and instruct students in a sport, and instruct students in the proper use of equipment and rules of the specific sport. - Supervise students in the locker room, during practices, during athletic competitions, and on buses to and from athletic competitions. - Report and/or communicate information to the appropriate parties as needed - Maintain student discipline, including prevention of hazing, harassment, and discrimination. - Maintain proper inventory and care of equipment and facilities. - Knowledge and ability to prevent injuries. - Ability to teach and motivate middle/high school-aged students. - Possess a current CPR and First Aid certificate. - Ability to work with other staff to raise funds for the sport and athletic program.
Knowledge of: Skills of the sport. Strategies and concepts in the sport. Rules of the sport. Policies of the district and state rules and guidelines that apply to athletics and student behavior. Adolescent growth and development, that a student is an individual and an athlete. Ability to: Exhibit positive leadership skills, good sportsmanship, and personal and professional integrity. Maintain good communication with the Athletic Director, school administrators, other staff, and parents. Demonstrate good rapport with the coaches and staff of other schools and the athletic officials. Organize, plan, and execute practices and game schedules in a timely manner. Maintain the fiscal responsibility for the sport. Administer CPR and First Aid. Education and Experience: Experience in teaching and coaching sports at the middle/high school, college or community level. Participation in competitive sports in middle/high school, college or community. Training in how to teach and coach the sport. Formal training in child development and/or experience with youth. Teaching credential preferred, but not necessary.
