Position Overview: As a Substitute Teacher, you will play a critical role in maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Responsibilities include implementing lesson plans, managing the classroom environment, and ensuring learning objectives are met. Assignments may vary across grade levels and subject areas. Key Responsibilities: 1. Instructional Delivery Implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher and ensure instructional objectives are met. 2. Classroom Management Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment by enforcing classroom rules and managing student behavior. 3. Student Engagement Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities and discussions. 4. Assessment Administer and supervise tests, quizzes, and assignments as directed, and provide feedback when appropriate. 5. Student Support Provide academic and basic emotional support, assisting students with coursework and individual learning needs. 6. Communication Collaborate with school staff to ensure continuity of instruction and smooth classroom transitions. 7. Professionalism Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and parents. Qualifications: • Valid Teaching Credential (required for PUSD substitute teacher eligibility) • Previous experience working with children or in educational settings preferred • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to adapt to varying classroom environments • Flexibility and availability for on-call assignments Working Conditions: Substitute teachers work on an on-call basis, with assignments varying in duration. Work hours typically align with the regular school day. The environment may include classroom noise, frequent transitions, and varied instructional settings.
