WASHINGTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION: CUSTODIAN SALARY RANGE: 30 GROUP: MAINTENANCE/OPERATIONS/TRANSPORTATION DATE OF ADOPTION/REVISION: 01/22/09 DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, to perform a variety of custodial work in keeping assigned rooms, buildings and office space in a clean, neat and orderly condition; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets; dusts, waxes, washes and polished furniture and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans restrooms and showers; washes windows and walls; cleans blackboards; cleans drinking fountains; polishes metal work; moves and arranges furniture and equipment; sets up, opens and closes classrooms and other facilities for various community activities and services; replaces light bulbs and makes minor non-technical repairs to desks and equipment; cleans venetian blinds; reports need for repairs to buildings and equipment; checks and stores materials received; maintains equipment used in the course of work; watches buildings during late shifts to prevent vandalism, turns out lights and locks doors and windows; raises and lowers flags; opens buildings at beginning of work day; picks up paper and trash on grounds and courts of buildings; operates and maintains power cleaning equipment; may supervise student workers; may perform routine grounds keeping duties; may assist in the preparation of surfaces for painting and in minor painting tasks necessary for the proper maintenance and/or cleaning of walls and surfaces; may drive motor vehicles. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If required on the job, possession of an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles; maintain a driving record acceptable for coverage under District vehicle insurance programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: - Methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures; - Cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work; - Common tools and their use; - Safe work practices. AND Ability to: - Maintain assigned buildings and areas in a clean and orderly condition; - Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency; - Perform heavy manual work; - Operate power cleaning equipment with skill and safety; - Understand and follow work schedules as well as oral and/or written directions; - Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. AND Training and experience: - Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain such knowledge and abilities would be: One year of custodial, janitorial or related work experience. Physical Abilities: • Frequently requires ability to walk, bend, stoop, twist at the waist, reach above and below the shoulders, perform neck extension, flexion and rotation, and perform repetitive arm and shoulder motions with moderate exertion. • Occasional sitting, standing, squatting, climbing. • Requires the ability to climb and use ladders safely, • Lift materials or equipment up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and carry up to 20 feet. • Push, pull, and guiding over 50 pounds on an occasional basis • Requires the ability to operate and maneuver demanding equipment such as floor polishers and carpet cleaning equipment. • Visual acuity and depth perception to operate equipment and read safety materials • Hear, speak, write, and read in English to exchange information, write work orders, read directions, and MSDS sheets

Training date on 6/5/2026 Custodian will be at the following school sites: Southrport, Stonegate & Elkhorn/Clarendon, Westfield PLEASE NOTE: All summer employment is contingent upon state funding and sufficient student enrollment. In the event it becomes necessary to reduce your assignment during the 2026 Summer program, salary and benefits will be prorated accordingly.

This position runs from June 8, 2026, through July 10, 2026. June 19th and July 3rd are paid holidays.
