SUMMARY New LA is seeking passionate, well organized teachers who are interested in the middle grades and are seeking a small school environment where teacher voice is valued and leadership opportunities are available. New LA is looking for outstanding, data-driven educators with a strong foundation in the Common Core State Standards, and whose teaching beliefs and practices are rooted in anti-racist, culturally responsive pedagogy. JOB DESCRIPTION Provide a supportive learning environment for students; Guide students to mastery of the Common Core State Standards in ELA and Social Studies; Use data to inform practice, including participation in school wide benchmarking and intervention; Create a nurturing and caring classroom environment for all students and implement restorative practices; Serve as a student advisor; includes following the advisory curriculum, monitoring social, emotional, and academic progress, and acting as first contact for parents; Participate in social justice and community engagement activities; Participate in outdoor education programming, including multiple-day and overnight camping trips; Work well as a team player to prepare students for success in high school, college and the world beyond; Serve as a positive role model; Collaborate well with co-teachers and colleagues – in grade level teams, curriculum teams, and full faculty; Provide accommodations and support in accordance with IEPs and 504 plans when applicable; Provide scaffolds for all learners including multilingual learners through iELD and dELD; Demonstrate a commitment to the whole child, with concern for each student’s academic and social-emotional well-being; Facilitate an “open door classroom,” where best practice is shared with colleagues and visitors, and where all staff members embrace their role as learners.
