Job Summary

The Rocklin Unified School District is seeking an expert-level Systems Engineer – Network Emphasis to serve as the district’s senior network infrastructure leader within the Technology Services Department. This position is, first and foremost, a Systems Engineer role requiring mastery of enterprise networking — the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the district’s LAN/WAN environment across all sites. The successful candidate will possess the full technical foundation expected of a seasoned enterprise systems engineer. What distinguishes this role is an expert-level emphasis on network architecture and operations: next-generation core, distribution, and access switching; wireless infrastructure; firewall security; high-availability failover using protocols such as OSPF; deep protocol analysis; and API-driven network health monitoring. The ideal candidate brings hands-on production experience with HP/Aruba and/or Cisco platforms and the ability to design, document, and optimize a complex multi-site network environment. This position provides technical mentorship and training to district-level and site-based technology staff, and collaborates closely with the Systems Engineer – Security Emphasis and Systems Engineer – Programming and Data Emphasis to ensure network security compliance, integrated monitoring, and infrastructure modernization.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education, experience, and industry certifications may be considered. EXPERIENCE: Four years progressive advancement in the field of computer systems with an emphasis on experience in network administration and infrastructure management in an enterprise or educational setting. The ideal candidate should have 4+ years’ experience and working knowledge in the following areas: - Networking: HP/Aruba & Cisco Products, networking technologies, protocols, wireless, VoIP, routing and security - Systems: Deep understanding of all operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OS, and Microsoft Products including Active Directory/Azure, Intune, etc. - Virtualization: VMware and similar tools - Storage: iSCSI SAN and NAS - Backup: Technology and Tools to support data integrity and recovery CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS: - Valid California Driver’s License - Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Aruba Certified Mobility Expert (ACMX), or equivalent preferred. - Additional certifications in networking are preferred.
