Teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Special Education KNOWLEDGE OF: 1. Current educational trends and instructional methodologies in the education of the hearing impaired. 2. Speech, language, and auditory training, and general curricular strategies as they apply to the hearing impaired. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Experience teaching or student teaching special education students, working on student IEPs 2. Skill in interpreting audiograms, checking hearing aids, American sign language and auditory/verbal techniques used with deaf/hard of hearing students, preparing and maintaining reports and records; 3. Knowledge of standardized language assessment instruments, their administration and interpretation; psychology of the deaf, their community and culture; 4. Ability to maintain appropriate records, work and communicate effectively with students, parents and public agencies, maintain a flexible schedule, travel to various locations; 5. Physical Abilities include standing for extended periods, reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, fine manual dexterity, pulling, pushing, talking/hearing, and near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision. 6. Must be able to operate closed caption machines, TDD, phone, fax, computer, copy machine, VCR and TV monitor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Job requirements as indicated above; 2. Valid California Communicatively Handicapped Credential; 3. Demonstrated experience successfully teaching or student teaching special education students; 4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; 5. Valid California Driver's License. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Experience teaching Communicatively Handicapped students; 2. Experience as a general education classroom teacher; 3. Knowledge of agencies providing services for the language, speech and hearing impaired; 4. Knowledge of recent trends related to behavior modification; 5. One (1) year of successful experience in a California school district or County Schools Office.
