Job Summary
As Nazareth School’s Middle School Social Studies & Religion Teacher, you will serve as the Middle School homeroom teacher while teaching social studies and religion to students in grades 6–8. This role is an opportunity to help students deepen their understanding of history, civics, geography, and Catholic faith within a supportive, faith-filled Catholic school community. You will bring learning to life through engaging, discussion-based lessons, technology integration, and differentiated instruction aligned with California State Standards and Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards.
Requirements / Qualifications
Religious Qualifications - Active, practicing Roman Catholic - Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy Professional Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in education, social studies, theology/religious studies, or a related discipline. - California Multiple Subject Credential or relevant Single Subject Credential in Social Science or related field (or ability/willingness to obtain). - Two or more years of successful teaching experience, preferably in middle school and ideally within a Catholic or faith-based school. - Demonstrated ability to design and implement engaging, discussion- and project-based lessons aligned with California State Standards. - Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and support adolescent learners in grades 6–8. - Proficiency with educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom and online learning platforms). - Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic values (preferred) and commitment to supporting the mission and philosophy of Catholic education. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organization and time-management, and commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.

Comments and Other Information
Physical Requirements: To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the Teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events.
The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
