Job Summary
New Opportunities Organization is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic educators to join our collaborative in-custody instructional team. We provide essential training in academic, vocational, social, and emotional skills. Our mission is to help individuals gain the competencies needed to secure employment and reintegrate into society as productive, engaged citizens. Our STEAM courses are central to this mission, focusing on Mathematics and Arts & Sciences. These courses offer students dynamic learning experiences through hands-on assignments, collaborative projects, presentations, and reflective activities. STEAM is complemented by our Life Skills curriculum, which supports personal and professional growth. Key Responsibilities: • Teach and develop courses for diverse student populations in correctional facilities. • Deliver engaging lessons that promote the development of mathematical, scientific, and literacy skills. • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of at-promise students. • Utilize established curriculum and supplementary materials in collaboration with administration. • Demonstrate a working knowledge of California Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Professional Expectations: • Foster a dynamic, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. • Maintain professional relationships with program partners and follow all organization and facility guidelines. • Be an advocate for students and a proactive member of the educational team. • Participate in school-wide activities such as proctoring, event planning, and staff training. Requirements / Qualifications
Requirements to be considered for the High School teacher position: • A valid California Teaching Credential in the following categories: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, or Single Subject Teaching Credential in a core academic subject area(s) • English Language Learner Authorization • Experience with Independent Studies curriculum preferred • Bilingual preferred not required • Experience teaching STEAM-related subjects (Mathematics, Arts & Sciences). • Flexibility to teach additional subjects as needed. • Proven success working with both large and small classes. • Strong communication skills to work effectively with students, peers, and correctional staff.
