Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION Any combination equivalent to: • Graduation from high school; • Supplemented by courses in automotive repair and diesel mechanics; • Associate’s degree (preferred) in automotive technology, automotive/equipment maintenance, or a related field; • Three years’ journey-level automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience; • Two years’ fleet supervision experience preferred; • Three years of experience in general gasoline, light-duty diesel-powered, and/or heavy-duty equipment repair work; • Knowledge of techniques and practices of maintenance and repair of heavy- and light-duty vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment; • Knowledge of principles of training, supervision, and providing work direction; • Knowledge of methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; • Knowledge of fleet control and technical aspects of the field of specialty; • Ability to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department in the maintenance and repair of District fleet vehicles and support equipment; • Ability to repair and maintain a wide variety of large and small gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment and small engines; • Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and computerized malfunctions; • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and make presentations with clarity and accuracy; and • A valid Class B commercial driver’s license, with passenger and air brake endorsements, and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: •Possession of a valid State of California Class B Driver’s License; and •Possession of a valid California DMV Medical Examiner's Certificate (DL-51A)

2025-2026: Salary schedule increase of 2% and a 2% off-schedule payment at year-end.
2026–2027: Salary schedule increase of 60% of the statutory funded COLA, plus any funded ongoing augmentations as provided in the State Budget Act; 2% off-schedule payment at year-end.
2027–2028: Salary schedule increase of 50% of the statutory funded COLA, plus any funded ongoing augmentations as provided in the State Budget Act; 2% off-schedule payment at year-end
