Program Specialist - Coordinator


JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Program Specialist-Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, assists the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, placement and maintenance of programs for individuals with special needs; provides training to special and general education staff, administrators, classified staff and parents; monitors program compliance; provides curricular resources to teachers and specialists; provides consultation and support to site administrators and staff in the area of special education and related services; coordinates special education programs and related services; assists in the supervision of support staff and completes other related functions as directed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates with the Director of Special Education in the program development, improvement of program effectiveness, innovation of special education methods and techniques and research.
• Monitors program compliance in accordance with State and Federal Law.
• Makes recommendations that are appropriate to the students’ needs and are fiscally sound.
• Provides leadership to insure understanding and promotes the educational objectives of special education, including planning and administering professional development programs for special education staff.
• Serves as a resource/liaison to IFSP/IEP teams and other personnel in preparation for and follow up of placement assessment.
• Provides support for transitions from IFSP to IEP as well as transitions within the K-8 system.
• Provides and supervises appropriate placement for students needing special services, within and outside of the district by working with SELPA, and other state and local education agencies.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, outside agencies, and consultants to provide supervision of school-based and extended day programming.
• Assists special day class teachers and other staff as necessary in the design of individualized education programs and plans.
• Coordinates the development of sequential and articulated special class curriculum in the area(s) of his/her responsibility.
• Monitors behavioral needs of students and coordinates with the Director of Student Services on the development of positive behavioral intervention plans as needed.
• Schedules and serves as administrator for IEP and progress meetings for students receiving extended day programming or services outside of Campbell USD.
• Attends relevant meetings and conferences.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Special Education law and procedural safeguards.
- IEP planning process and continuum of program options.
- Principles of behavioral management and curriculum development appropriate for children with autism and other disorders and disabilities.
- Team building and group process techniques.
- Effective communication skills.

Credential and/or License:
- Valid California K–8 Special Education Teaching Credential(s); or Clinical Services Credential; or School Psychology Authorization.
- Valid California Administrative Services Credential

Education:
Master’s Degree in Special Education or School Psychology preferred

Personal Qualities:
- Appearance, grooming and personality, which establish a desirable example for students and staff.
- Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health.

Director of Special Education


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms and speak and hear effectively. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Performing this job requires the employee to be flexible and be able to easily travel to a variety of locations within a day as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and also must occasionally go into students’ homes.
