FULLERTON JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
CUSTODIAL AND GROUNDS SUPERVISOR
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direction of site administration, supervise custodial and grounds services in an assigned area, school plant, or installation; perform services requested by administrative personnel; and perform other related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Confer with administrative personnel on work schedules, problems, and emergencies.
2. Supervise, evaluate, instruct, and schedule custodial and grounds personnel;
3. Supervise in the cleaning of facilities and arrangement of furniture for meetings, special functions, and activities;
4. Supervise and/or change all senior locker combinations after graduation, if combination locks are installed;
5. Inspect work of subordinates to see that proper work methods are being followed and standards maintained;
6. Inspect heating and cooling equipment; adjust for temperature control as needed;
7. Inspect and maintain clock settings on all automatic sprinkler systems to ensure proper watering and operation of system; report malfunctioning system or heads that require repairs to District Service Center;
8. Review service requests and refer to District Service Center if problem is beyond site capabilities to solve or correct;
9. Requisition, receive, and store supplies;
10. Supervise minor repairs to heating/air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems, such as replacement of electrical wall plates and other minor corrections;
11. Supervise watering of all lawns, plants, and shrubbery not watered by automatic sprinkler system;
12. Supervise planting and transplanting of flowers and shrubs, reseeding and fertilizing lawns, and trimming bushes and trees;
13. Ensure exterior trash containers are emptied and secured;
14. Supervise replacement of all exterior lamps that can be reached with equipment available on site;
15. Supervise preparation, marking, dragging, and maintenance of athletic fields;
16. Inspect facilities and grounds for vandalism;
17. Open doors and gates of site as necessary;
18. Perform routine minor servicing of motor vehicles assigned to site; and
19. Supervise the cleaning and backwashing of swimming pools.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
1. Materials, supplies, and equipment used in various custodial, grounds, and minor maintenance activities.
ABILITY TO:
1. Supervise and schedule maintenance work program;
2. Make minor repairs to facilities;
3. Maintain simple records;
4. Supervise, provide work direction, and assign duties to custodial and grounds personnel; and
5. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION:
1. Graduation from high school/equivalent; and
2. Three years of experience in maintenance of facilities and grounds work.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
1. Possession of a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Indoor and outdoor environment; regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors; subject to driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Walking and standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist; pushing and pulling cleaning equipment; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving furniture and objects weighing up to 75 pounds; climbing ladders; and reaching overhead and horizontally to replace light bulbs. HAZARDS: Exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
