POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Principal, teach content and skills in Mathematics, utilizing Common Core Standards. Provide intervention support for at-risk students in math. DUTIES – E=Essential Duties Selects books and instructional aids to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives E; adapts Mathematics material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils E; participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school and on the district level E; other responsibilities as detailed in the Albany Teacher Job Description E; other duties as assigned E; provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and accommodates circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously E; establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions E; communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress E; participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities E Requirements: 1. TEACHING DUTIES: E = Essential Duties
PLANNING:
- Implement school level objectives and philosophy, goals and policies adopted by the District and the State Board of Education. E
- Develops short and long-range lesson plans based upon definite objectives for a thorough instructional program. E
- Communicates with parents, support staff, and other sources to assess and meet special needs and abilities of pupils. E
- Provides planned learning experiences to motivate pupils and to best utilize available time for instruction. E
ENVIRONMENT:
- Creates an effective environment for learning within a classroom made comfortable by the control of lighting, heating, and ventilation to the extent possible. E
- Creates, with the assistance from pupils, a functional and attractive environment for learning through the use of displays, bulletin boards, interest centers, and learning centers.
MANAGEMENT:
- Acts in a positive and accepting manner so as to create an atmosphere in which children may develop a healthy self-concept and self-discipline. E
- Utilizes effective and reasonable techniques of classroom control which help to provide a good learning atmosphere. E
- Works to develop and maintain standards of behavior needed by children for effective peer relationships and effective learning. E
CITIZENSHIP
- Involves children in developing a meaning for citizenship which encourages them to act as responsible citizens within their level of operation and understanding. E
CURRICULUM
- Develops a variety of instructional approaches, activities, experiences, and materials adaptable to pupils’ mental and physical abilities, learning styles, interests, cultures, and backgrounds. E
- Plans experiences for pupils to participate in observation, experimentation, problem solving, and communication.
- Exposes pupils to experiences and discussions which make it possible for them to respect differences, as well as to recognize likeliness, among human beings and to illustrate the interdependence upon one another and upon the environment. E
- Provides experiences for pupils to work with peers or adults in different roles, such as leaders and followers.
RECORDKEEPING:
- Evaluates each pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates on a regular basis with parents on individual pupil progress. E
- Performs basic attendance accounting and data entry as required. E
OTHER:
- Obtains materials and equipment necessary to teach the District-developed curriculum.
- Participates in curriculum development with the school of assignment and may serve on a District level committee.
- May participate in the selection and requisition of books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
- May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, student teachers, and other paraprofessionals.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities.
- Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
- Participates in District, school, and educationally oriented community meetings whenever possible.
- Maintains and strives to improve professional competence through participation in in-service educational workshops provided by the school, the District, or other self-selected professional growth activities. E
- Performs other related duties as assigned. E
