The Popular Music Conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts is looking to fill the following teaching position: Music Business & Peak State Records: This role blends classroom instruction with hands-on, real-world experience in the music industry and will oversee Peak State Records, the student-run record label within the Popular Music Conservatory. The ideal candidate will guide students through music release strategy, marketing, artist development, and record label operations. The position may be structured as separate courses or a combined program, depending on departmental needs.

Required Qualifications: • Professional experience in the music industry • Experience releasing music and understanding music business technical workflows • Knowledge of digital distribution platforms and release processes • Understanding of music marketing and promotion in a modern digital landscape • Ability to design curriculum aligned with current industry practices • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills • Experience mentoring or teaching high school-aged students in a creative environment Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in artist development, label operations, or music management • Background in A&R, talent development, or artist scouting • Experience working with or within a record label, collective, or independent music company • Familiarity with distribution platforms (e.g., DistroKid, AWAL, Stem, CD Baby) and DSP ecosystems • Knowledge of publishing, licensing, sync, and royalty/metadata systems • Experience with industry tools (e.g., Chartmetric, SoundExchange, Songtrust, PRO dashboards) • Strong understanding of social media strategy and digital audience development • Experience mentoring or teaching high school or college-age students • Familiarity with current trends in the music industry and creator economy
