Avalon School is located on Santa Catalina Island and is part of the Long Beach Unified School District. Avalon School’s vacancy is for a High School Functional Academics class. It is projected that the class will serve fewer than ten high school students. The special education department at Avalon School consists of five certificated employees. The High School Functional Academics teacher will have collaborative access to a Department Head who has previously served in the High School Functional Academics teaching role, along with a high school RSP teacher who has worked closely with each of the Functional Academics students in their mainstreamed elective courses. If selected, relocation to the island is optional; it is not a prerequisite for employment at Avalon School. The majority of certificated staff are commuters, living in Long Beach and beyond, who take a ferry each day to get to the island. Ferry transportation is covered by the district.
