School Psychologist (Teacher Specialist) at Diagnostic Center, Central California
Requirements / Qualifications
The Diagnostic Center, Central California (DCC) is accepting applications for the position of School Psychologist. The individual selected to fill this position will participate as a member of a transdisciplinary assessment team and work with some of California’s most complex and challenging students. This position serves as member of a transdisciplinary team to provide assessment and training services to local educational agencies (LEAs). Assessment services include the provision of diagnosis and instructional planning and recommendations for students, ages 3 through 21, who exhibit a wide variety of disabling conditions and developmental levels and are complicated or puzzling enough to require assistance beyond what is available from the local district resources. Specific training services include demonstration teaching, technical assistance and/or presentation of staff development activities for LEA staff and parents. Subsumed within all duties is the responsibility to remain current with new research developments and evidence-based practices in the areas related to students with special needs. *This position is Pre-Tenured, based on the bargaining unit contract between the State of California and the Service Employee's International Union (SEIU) Local 1000 Bargaining Unit 3.
Minimum Qualifications • California Education Specialist Instruction Credential or other appropriate specialist credential • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s Degree preferred) • Minimum 5 years of experience providing special education services in public schools • Outstanding diagnostic skills in all aspects of the student assessment process (i.e., testing, parent and teacher interviewing, developing rapport with challenging students, etc.) • Excellent analytical and written language skills • Extensive experience in assessment and interventions serving students with a variety of disabling conditions (e.g., learning disabilities, intellectual disability, autism, severe emotional disturbance, communication disorders, physical disabilities, medically fragile, etc.) • Knowledge and experience working with students who have disabilities ranging from mild to severe • Knowledge and experience in assessment and interventions serving students with disabilities who are also English Language Learners • Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a transdisciplinary assessment team and routinely complete assignments within pre-established timelines • Ability to present assessment findings and implications in a clear and sensitive manner to parents and school district personnel at post-assessment conferences • Valid driver’s license and ability to participate and travel throughout the DCC’s catchment area (13 counties), including overnight stays as needed

PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 3, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will 4.38 hours PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.
