DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The job of "Painter" involves preparing and painting a variety of surfaces; repairing a variety of surfaces and ordering supplies required for job assignment; and other related duties as assigned. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Prepares a variety of surfaces for the purpose of ensuring that surfaces are ready for painting such as masking, cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling, applying chemical primers and other related preparations. • Paints a variety of surfaces, e.g. inside and outside of buildings, parking lots, game courts, and other related areas for the purpose of protecting and preserving/refurbishing school property. • As needed, removes such items as furniture, fixtures, graffiti, old paint, old wall covering, or designated surfaces for the purpose of preparing area for painting. • Repairs wallpaper, plaster, dry wall, stucco, ceiling tiles, glass, windows, and related materials for the purpose of maintaining and preserving surfaces. • Patches plaster, wood and dry wall in preparation for painting or finishing. • Performs routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure safe and adequate equipment operation. • Inspects work for the purpose of ensuring that job was completed as directed and within specifications. • Transports equipment, materials and tools to job site. • Orders materials such as paints, brushes, wallpaper and necessary supplies for the purpose of completing assignments. • Responds to emergency situations, e.g., facility damage and related hazards for the purpose of removing immediate safety concerns. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: • Designs and prepares painted signs including international signage. • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of meeting demands, completing work orders or safety issues in a timely manner. • Coordinates with district staff and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently. ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience Required: Journeyman level painter or completion of formal apprenticeship. • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills of operating hand and power tools used in craft. Knowledge of safety (MSDS) requirements, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in craft. Abilities to stand and walk for extended periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/ crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing ordinary conversations, near and far visual acuity/color vision. • Training Required: Proficiency with skills of the trade. • Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent. • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB test clearance, criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
