Job Summary
The Interim School Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of the St. Margaret’s Episcopal School community. The Interim School Nurse provides professional nursing care that promotes, maintains, and restores optimal health for students, Professional Community, and visitors, while upholding the school’s standards of care, commitment, and confidentiality. The School Nurse works collaboratively with the Health and Wellness team and may support school retreats, extended hours, or additional shifts as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Student Health and Clinical Care • Provide professional nursing care to students from preschool through grade 12. • Assess and manage medical conditions and student health needs during the school day. • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies on campus, including but not limited to anaphylaxis, head injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, seizures, and other acute conditions in accordance with school protocols. • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and authorized. • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care using the school’s electronic health record system. Health Services and Collaboration • Collaborate closely with the Health and Wellness team, including registered nurses, athletic trainers, and school counselors. • Communicate appropriately with parents, Professional Community, and administrators regarding student health concerns while maintaining confidentiality. • Support health-related planning for school activities, events, and retreats as assigned. • Promote a safe, caring, and supportive health environment aligned with the school’s mission and values. Administrative and Operational Support • Complete administrative tasks related to student health management, including health documentation and reporting. • Utilize basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google-based programs, to support health services operations. • Follow school policies, procedures, and applicable state and professional regulations. • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support Health & Wellness operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required • Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing or a related field. • Valid and current California Registered Nurse (RN) license. • Current CPR and First Aid certification. • Ability to assess medical situations, exercise sound judgment, and respond calmly in emergency situations. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Preferred • Prior experience in a school or pediatric healthcare setting. • Familiarity with electronic health record systems. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: • Salary Range: $40.00 - $45.00 • Paid Time Off: 1 week of sick pay
