Job Summary

Description: JSerra Catholic High School is looking for an enthusiastic and capable Spanish language teacher to teach Spanish courses within our World Languages Department. The ideal candidate for this position will be highly proficient and bilingual in English and Spanish and have prior teaching experience. Qualified candidates should enjoy and be comfortable working with high school aged students and their families. Applicants should have the ability to participate in shared decision-making in a team environment, have excellent oral and written communication skills and be proficient in using and leveraging technology. Experienced High School teachers are strongly preferred. Depending on experience and qualifications, this position may also include the opportunity to serve as World Languages Department Chair. Responsibilities • Planning, preparing, and delivering Spanish language content to high school students at various grade levels • Assigning work, correcting and grading work submitted by his/her students • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of students • Providing oral or written assessments related to individual students • Communicating, consulting and cooperating with other members of the school staff • Advising and cooperating with the Principal, Vice Principal of Academics, and Director of Curriculum, as well as other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, and methods of teaching and assessment • Participating in PLC (Professional Learning Communities) and all school In-Service education and training courses and meetings with school staff • Supervise students outside of the classroom such as at lunchtime or during detention • Depending on experience and qualifications, this position may include serving as World Languages Department Chair, helping support the department’s faculty, curriculum planning, collaboration, and co

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – with students, parents and school staff with ability to leverage verbal, written and electronic communication • Must be fluent and comfortable in oral and written Spanish and English languages with a high-level understanding of Spanish grammar. • Proficiency in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records via the school’s on-line grading program • Requires proficiency and knowledge in use of Microsoft suite tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree required in Education or Spanish Language or related specialty • Single Subject Credential in Spanish preferred or related area • Minimum 2-years prior Spanish High School Teaching Experience or equivalent teaching experience • Prior experience and success developing and deploying a High School language curriculum and strongly preferred
