DEFINITION
Under general direction of the middle school principal, assists with the administration and coordination of a middle school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serves as an instructional leader
- Develops and implements the school safety plan in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies
- Adheres to the certificated and classified Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of certificated and classified staff
- Conducts thorough and deliberate investigations related to student and employee discipline
- Adheres to District Board Policy and Administrative Regulations
- Promotes a professional culture that fosters site-based management by involving stakeholders in the decision making process
- Supervises and manages site operations and facilities with high standards for safety and efficiency
- Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with Federal and State law and District policies (Suspends or recommends expulsion of students as appropriate, attends expulsion hearings as needed and recommends behavioral interventions)
- Communicates effectively with parents regarding student discipline and academic progress
- Responds to and resolves parent, student and staff complaints
- Assists with curriculum, master scheduling, guidance and counseling, testing, records and staff evaluation
- Coordinates Parent/Student conferences
- Attends Student Study Teams for at risk students and attends IEP meetings as assigned
- Supervises curriculum and instruction programs as assigned
- Establishes, coordinates and maintains communication with community and parent groups
- Attends and supervises a variety of school events
- Screens, interviews and recommends candidates who are caring, enthusiastic and display a positive attitude
- Motivates exceptional employee performance and enhances morale
- Attends and actively participates in District scheduled meetings, committees and professional development
- Works cooperatively with District personnel
- Adheres to schedules and timelines
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as the principal may request

CREDENTIAL/LICENSE:
- Valid California Administrative Credential
- Valid California Driver License
EDUCATION:
Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in educational administration or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience or a minimum of three (3) years of teaching and a minimum of two (2) years of administrative experience at the secondary level
Intern Applicants
- A Bachelor’s degree
- Five (5) years of successful secondary teaching experience
- Current enrollment in an Administrative credentialing and Master’s degree program

[Interns are acceptable, must submit verification of enrollment.] Experience (to Earn a Preliminary Credential) Five years of successful, full-time experience in a public school, nonpublic school, or private school of equivalent status located in California or another state, or a combination of experience earned in California and another state. This experience may be teaching, pupil personnel work, librarianship, health services, clinical, rehabilitative services, occupational therapy or physical therapy, or a combination of teaching and school services equal to five years. Substitute or parttime service does not apply.
